International Women’s day 2012
‘Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures’ had been announced as the 2012 theme for International Woman’s Day (IWD), which took place every year on March 8th. The tagline, displayed on the official press release, states: “If every International Women’s Day event held in 2012 includes girls in some way, then thousands of minds will be inspired globally.” This globally recognized annual day represents the gender inequalities of the past, it serves to bring focus to the gender issues of today, and it also sets a gender agenda and momentum for the future. Events are held all over the world throughout the month of March to honor women for their social, economic and political accomplishments. Councils, organizations and local governments have gone one step further by developing their own sub- themes: the list below shows various IWD themes around the world. Canada, Status of Women (Federal Gov) - Strong Leadership. Strong Women. Strong World: Equality; Australia, UNIFEM - Unite to End Violence Against Women; UK, Doncaster Council: Women’s Voices and Influence; and the United Nations: Women and men united to end violence against women and girls. Also, the Euromediter network will celebrate the IWD.
